To reconcile is to restore to friendship or harmony. Another way of saying it is, to restore true relationship. This is what God did through Christ and the cross. He restored the relationship between man and Himself. Look at 2 Corinthians 5:18,19 “And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.” Notice that the Lord didn’t stop at reconciliation between Himself and mankind. He took it a step further and gave us a ministry of reconciliation. We are expected, through Christ in us, to restore relationships towards one another, our fellow man. It is through Him and not of ourselves that we can accomplish this. With all this being said, there is yet another area that must be dealt with. That area lies within the inner man. To reconcile with yourself about yourself. Yes we all have junk, baggage, stuff, whatever you want to call it. Sometimes our greatest challenge is with ourselves. We can’t truly reconcile with others when we haven’t done it for ourselves. How does that work, you might ask? There are a few simple steps. One is to know and understand that God loves you and has forgiven you of all sin. Secondly, recognize that you, in your own strength, cannot fix you. Only through Christ and His strength can you be fixed. Thirdly, is to know who you are in Christ. Be reconciled with God the Father, then yourself and others. Recognize the power that is in you to accomplish this.
