Our Inheritance

As I was studying this week, I was drawn to Ephesians chapter 1. There is so much in this single chapter that it could take years to dig it all out. With that being said, I want to share some things that I’ve gotten from it.

First of all, before the earth was formed, God, the Creator of heaven and earth had already set aside an inheritance for all of us who believe. Chapter 1:4-5 “According as He hath chosen us in Him, before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will.”
The Complete Jewish Bible says it like this… “4 In the Messiah he chose us in love before the creation of the universe to be holy and without defect in his presence. 5 He determined in advance that through Yeshua the Messiah we would be his sons — in keeping with his pleasure and purpose — 6 so that we would bring him praise commensurate with the glory of the grace he gave us through the Beloved One.”

In other words, He pre-arranged our adoption before sin ever entered into the world. He already made a plan for salvation through Christ. Now I am not saying that the Lord has picked some to be saved and some not to. He is no respecter of persons. It is His will for all humanity to be saved, however because He gave us a free will to choose, He cannot get involved unless we give Him permission. He wants us to choose Him. It was and is His pleasure and purpose to adopt us. Wow, just get a picture of the Father looking at a picture of you and saying “yeah, that’s My kid.” Not only that, but He also has made us holy and without blame. Remember we’ve been redeemed through Christ Jesus. He did it, not us. It is by grace through faith that we are saved. That’s Ephesians 2:8.

Verse 11 “In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:”

You and I and every believer have already obtained our inheritance the moment we accepted and received Jesus as our Lord and Savior. There’s really nothing more for us to do that will bring our inheritance to us. There’s no formula and no works involved. Only believe!

Look at 1 Peter 1:4 (AMP) “[Born anew] into an inheritance which is beyond the reach of change and decay [imperishable], unsullied and unfading, reserved in heaven for you,”

The inheritance we have from the Father through Christ is never-ending, will not ever fail or run out. This is a promise from God and we can trust that He never goes back on His word.

One other reference I want to share is in Galatians 3:22 (AMP) “But the Scriptures [picture all mankind as sinners] shut up and imprisoned by sin, so that [the inheritance, blessing] which was promised through faith in Jesus Christ (the Messiah) might be given (released, delivered, and committed) to [all] those who believe [who adhere to and trust in and rely on Him].”

If you trust and rely on Him, then you have that inheritance sitting there waiting for you to take it. Everything that He has, we have through this promise.

Occasionally Pastors Eric and Laura will write as the Lord leads them. There may be prophetic words or insights and revelation that have come to them. They share these with the intention that someone would be blessed and encouraged or admonished, something we all need once in a while.
